Lynda McClatchie is the founder and clinic director of Elevation Physiotherapy & Wellness. After spending many years working as a licensed physiotherapist for a large health care company, Lynda decided to start her own business in Mississauga. Looking for more information and guidance on how to start and grow her business, Lynda participated in the Starter Company PLUS program for entrepreneurs at the Mississauga Business Enterprise Centre (MBEC).
This is Lynda’s Story
“I’ve been a physiotherapist for over 20 years, and as cliché as it sounds, I still just really want to help people get better and back to whatever it is they love to do as quickly as possible. I have worked for many years at a large healthcare company where there was pressure to see as many people as possible each day. The focus seemed to move away from spending time with each patient to work on manual therapy techniques and various exercises to help them get better, faster. In part I started my own practice because I want to work differently than so many other physiotherapy clinics, and being on my own allows me to have a practice where I see people through their care from start to finish.
MBEC was integral in helping me understand aspects of starting a business and developing my plan: I needed to research the market in Mississauga, and understand how I could start to develop a niche to grow my practice. The Starter Company Plus program provided me with a helpful business knowledge foundation, and the grant allowed me to purchase clinic equipment much sooner than otherwise possible.
As the clinic continues to grow, the goal is to bring on another physiotherapist to work with and mentor, as that is also what I love to do. In a few years I hope to be working closely with a few Physiotherapists and Registered Massage Therapists to help those in Mississauga and beyond to get well and stay well!”
